Stop at: Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, Damnoen Saduak, Ratchaburi Province

Meet a driver at your Bangkok hotel, then trade city streets for a landscape of salt fields and rice paddies. When you approach Damnoen Saduak Foating Market, among Thailand’s most vibrant marketplaces, board a longtail boat so you can go right into the midst of the market’s floating vendors. After you’ve explored the unique markets, which remain one of the top attractions in this region. You’ll return to your air-conditioned coach and head towards Kanchanaburi, where the River Kwai is located. The river’s famous bridge was built in 1943 as part of a wartime project intended to connect Thai and Burmese railways lines to support Japanese occupation of Burma. More than 100,000 laborers and 12,000 prisoners of war died during the bridge’s construction. Following your time at the bridge, head to the JEATH War Museum to see displays of pictures and artifacts from the period. After a full day of exploring the landscapes that lie beyond Bangkok city limits, this tour concludes with drop-off at your original departure point.

  • How do I get to Damnoen Saduak floating market from Bangkok?

How to get to Damnoen Saduak. Damnoen Saduak floating market is located in Ratchaburi province at around 100 kilometers from Bangkok and can be reached by car in around one and a half hours. Take the Pinklao – Nakhon Chai Sri road (Highway 338) and turn right to Amphoe Damnoen Saduak.

  • Which is the best floating market to visit in Bangkok?

Which Bangkok Floating Market is Best?
    1. Damnoen Saduak Floating Market.
    2. Amphawa Floating Market.
    3. Taling Chan Floating Market.
    4. Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market.
    5. Bang Nam Pheung Floating Market.
    6. Tha Kha Floating Market.
  • Is the floating market in Bangkok worth it?

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is still the most popular floating market in Bangkok as it is the oldest floating market in Thailand and a landmark for decades. Although the market evolved more into a tourist attraction, it's still worth the visit in my honest opinion.
  • How much is the floating market in Bangkok?

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market can be visited any day starting from 6:00 am. Market Fee: 1,500 Baht per GROUP up to 6 people.
  • Are floating markets in Bangkok only on weekends?

    A. Yes, most of the Bangkok floating markets are open on weekdays. A few of them are set up only on weekends.
  • Are taxis expensive in Bangkok?

Typical taxi fares for going a few kilometres are around 50 baht. Communication can be a problem with the majority of Bangkok's taxi drivers as they often speak little English. ... Since taxis are cheap and the drivers work all hours in traffic that is legendary, a small tip is often appreciated.
  • Can you visit the Bridge on the River Kwai?

One of the most classic joined group tours from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi where you will see the the Bridge over the River Kwai, World War II Cemetery, JEATH Museum and Saiyoke Waterfall. Moreover, you will experience a train ride along the Death Railway and pass over the wooden viaduct.
  • How far is the bridge on the River Kwai from Bangkok?

The distance between Bangkok and River Kwai Bridge is 112 km. The road distance is 127.6 km.
  • Where is Bridge Over the River Kwai?

A couple of hours from Bangkok in western Thailand, Kanchanaburi province holds a more sombre message than most Thai tourist destinations. While nowadays it boasts a thriving backpacker scene, Kanchanaburi town is steeped in the gruelling history of the Death Railway, and is home to the Bridge on the River Kwai.
  • Who blew up the bridge over the River Kwai?

By May 1945 the British and American air forces had destroyed both bridges over the River Khwae-Noi (or Kwai as it is popularly known). The Japanese army's vital supply line between Burma and Malaya had been cut, but by then the atomic bomb had made surrender inevitable.

If you are looking for a way to see the floating markets and the river Kwai as an independent traveler who is looking for a way to get there then this is the tour for you. Our tour guide did not spend a lot of time on giving us any information on the market or on anything else. I would say this was one of the more disappointing tours that I have been on. This turned out to be a four bus transfer from Bangkok to the floating market to Kwai and back again. This tour, in my opinion, is nothing but a transportation service thinking it is otherwise will leave you very disappointed.
cathyhilder ,
Trip to floating markets and bridge on the river Kwai was very good guide was very nice and helpful it was also good that it was only a small group of people overall it was a very good day
jbohun2 ,
Very knowledgeible guide but difficult to understand. Interesting trip and we enjoyed it. No water or cold cloth provided which makes a huge difference when you are wilting. Lunch was very poor, meat was tough and tofu shrivelled.Floating market- paddle boat good fun, sadly motorised boats ruining atmosphere and bad fumes for genders.Long trip but good experience.
RCTrip2011 ,
This was a good overview of he floating markets and bridge. Could have been a little more history and point out things along the long journey to get there.
andylongmore66 ,
As described the tour visited the 2 places we wanted to see and each was as expected if not a little fake. On the way we visited a very distasteful theme park with elephants and women with rings around their necks. In this day and age we felt paying for a picture of a baby elephant in a small ringed area was unreasonable. While the women were traditional and very keen to discuss this the group found this very awkward exhibiting them in their surroundings. Driver and guide managed the 'long' day well.
Rusty ,
An early start, the minibus arrived at our hotel on time. After pickups at 2 more hotels we arrived at the main departure point and transferred to a coach. There were only 9 of us on the tour so plenty of space. The floating market was excellent although it was very busy. We then had a reasonably long journey to Kanchanaburi for the JEATH war museum, a very good lunch, the immaculate war cemetery and bridge of the river Kwai. The trip was well worth the long journey home and long day. 2 trips in 1. Highly recommended if your time in Thailand is limited.
Susan D ,
We had a great day on our tour. The whole day was well paced. My only advice to future travellers is do not buy at the floating markets. It's horribly overpriced. Everything I bought there was a fraction of the price at other markets I visited. Overall though, a day well spent.
Neil J ,
Tour was excellent and our guide was informative. The floating markets were very interesting and we had time on our own to shop. Bridge on the River Kwai is a long bus ride from Bangkok and was a little disappointing. Important to know the history before going as the current bridge is just a modern train bridge.
Magdalena S ,
Everything was well organised, we enjoyed the trip, we would definitely recommend that trip.
Jonathan G ,
This tour promised a lot and failed to deliver. 2 extra stops to “orchid farm” and “elephant farm” were terrible and unwanted. Gift shops and abused animals. Disgusting. Market was just more gift stalls. All the same. Not a real market at all. Guide really pushy about extras such as boat rides.
Nelli A ,
great day, great guide, confy bus with good air con, long day but still comfortable
William F ,
Wonderful tour. So interesting to see the floating market. The long boat boat ride was really fun through the canals to the market. Great guide. Really enjoyed the time at River Kwai I like history Plenty of time to enjoy.
satishchandra9 ,
The place was too crowded with boats at Floating market. The boats couldnt move, hence waste of time. River Kwai was Ok but a long way too see the place.

Elizabeth S ,
This was a wonderful day, with lots of shopping, history and getting to see some of Thailand outside of Bangkok. Definitely pay the extra 150 baht for the smaller canoe tour- that's about 4USD and absolutely worth it!
Michelle M ,
Great tour, we learnt about the history of Bangkok and the war. Had a lovely lunch at a floating restaurant and were cared for by our guide. Floating market was chaotic but fun take your face masks and the bridge was great. The trip was timed nicely with a train on the bridge.
Tyler E ,
The problem i had with this and all tours on Viator is when you book to see something, there is always other things they take you to see that you were not part of tge toir!In a 10 hour tour we had only 1 hour at the floating market. That is one of the things i paid to see and one hour was not enough
