May Kaidee's cooking school has been around since 1988 and we've proudly hosted thousands of vegetarian and non-vegetarian students since then from over 50 different countries. Even if you are not vegetarian, we encourage you to try our culinary experience and be pleasantly surprised at how fulfilling and informative our classes can be in learning how to make delicious Thai dishes.

Our popular Thai cooking class is taught in the morning at 9:00am and afternoon at 14:00pm daily, welcoming students of all skill levels. Recipes include soups, curries and stir fry. A great choice if you are new to Thai cooking.

Bangkok Tanao Rd. restaurant and cooking school is located behind the Burger King at the end of Khao San Rd. When facing the Burger King, walk through the alley to the left and look for our green sign immediately to the right.

Itinerary For Morning Class /Itinerary For Afternoon Class  

9:00-9:10am / 14:00 PM - 14:10 PM -During this time students get acquainted with the instructor and fellow students.Students are offered fresh fruit such as Papaya, Mango or Dragonfruit, and a bottle of spring water.Each student receives our special course notes booklet to review, which is later read in more detail during the hands-on cooking phase.

9:10-9:30am / 14:10pm - 14:30pm -A lesson on making chili paste is taught prior to the main lesson. Many students for the first time have the experience of using a mortar and pestle for food preparation, which is a common tool in Thai cooking that liberates an array of scents and tastes from the fresh raw ingredients used in chili paste.During the chili paste making demonstration, the instructor leads a discussion of Thai spices and herbs. Students are also introduced to a range of native vegetables and fruits, as well as oils and sauces important for Thai cooking. Lemongrass, Galangal, Kaffir Lime Leaves are among the primary ingredients that will be new to students not previously familiar with Thai cooking, used in popular dishes such as Tom Yam soup and Tom Kha soup. Equally important ingredients discussed include Spicy Basil, Sweet Basil, Coriander and Chinese Ginger.

12:00pm-12:45am / 15:30pm - 16:00pm -Students are given a tutorial on making fresh spring rolls and papaya salad. Techniques are taught for the delicate steps to making fresh spring rolls as well as for making Papaya salad, known in Thai as "Som Tom."Students are allowed a short time to sit and rest, as well as discuss the techniques learned during the course.

12:45-13:00 / 16:00pm - 17:00pm / 17:00pm - 18:00pm

-Students are treated to a demonstration of traditional Thai dancing. Students are encouraged to participate and learn beginning steps.Concluding remarks are made by the instructor and students may take notes at this time.Students are served a complimentary Sticky Rice and Mango dessert.

Note: Drinks ordered at this time cost extra and are not included with the class fee.

* Note: By default the afternoon class is the same as the morning, but the class tends to move faster since it is usually smaller. As in our morning class, students spend time becoming acquainted with the instructor and fellow students. Afternoon students also have the option to choose a custom recipe set if desired.

  • How to Reach Bangkok?

    By Flight

    To reach for the city of Bangkok there are two main airports, one running in the North and another from the East of Bangkok. It is the Suvarnabhumi Airport that locates itself 25 km to the east and the Don Muang Airport located 24 km to the north catering to domestic and international flights in abundance.

    Suvarnabhumi airport has direct and easy connectivity to the city by taxis, buses, and Airport Rail Link that is a high-speed train service in downtown Bangkok. There will be round the clock availability of roadway services from outside both the airports to drop you to your final destination.

    By Road

    The roadway services offer you with buses and taxis that get you wherever you wish to be in Bangkok. There are three bus terminals considered to be the major ones, the Northern Bus Terminal- Mochit, the Eastern Bus Terminal-Ekkamai, and the Southern Bus Terminal-Sa Tai.

    The buses will take you not just round the city but also to Pattaya, Krabi, Phuket, etc. cities neighbouring Bangkok. If looking out for taxi services, then do know that the taxis run according to the metered price so confirm the prices before the journey.

    By Train

    Bangkok has great rail connectivity throughout Thailand and also to other neighbouring countries. Hua Lamphong serves as the main railway station of the city to travel to neighbouring countries and many other parts of Thailand. There is another railway station, Thornburi station that connects the city from within for travelling to the local parts of the city.

Last December I booked the three day cooking class at the May Kaidee Restaurant and it was fantastic. The first day I joined the "normal" cooking class and experienced the Ice's passion and got a good overview over my favorite thai recipies. The second and third day I was by myself and restaurant manager Pawn taught me all about raw Thai food, curries and stir-fries. I felt so welcome at the restaurant and the recipes are fantatstic. I already cooked a lot of them here in Germany and am very happy that I took the oppportunitiy and was able to leran from Pawn.

We booked a class over a week in advance. Two days before our class, we were emailed asking if another day would work for us. As we had scheduled the class for our last day in Bangkok, we responded that we were not free other days and asked if our class was still happening. More than 24 hours later, the night before our reservation, we were emailed to tell us that the class was cancelled. For people looking for vegetarian classes, many other Bangkok cooking schools offer vegetarian options if you let them know in advance.

Had a great morning learning thai cooking at May Kaidee cooking class. Instructor “Ice” is quite passionate about sharing the joys of Thai cooking ! Smiling and enjoying oneself is just as important as the quality ingredients used. Lucked out and had a two student to one teacher class . So glad I was able to attend this school and plan on a second class when o return to Thailand. I definitely recommend this school and restaurant to any vegetarian or vegan foodies visiting Bangkok or Chiang Mai !

I took the afternoon Thai cooking class with Ice and found it to be fantastic. In the course of three hours I was shown the basic principles of Thai cooking (adapted to vegan diet) in terms of flavor balance and basic ingredients, using 9-10 dishes. The tastes were great, and it was extremely informative. Additionally, it was very generous and I got completely full from all that food and got to take whatever leftovers I wanted home.

Great experience! We cooked way more than I anticipated. Usually in a cooking class I do a few dishes, but here it was like a never-ending carnival of delicious food! The instructor was kind and patient, giving us great tips on how to make these dishes at home. And everything was just great! We tried many things. My favorite was the massaman curry. This was a personal favorite before attending the class and now I have the know-how to cook it back home. This is just priceless!

We did the express cooking class where we learnt a variety of thai dishes from chilli paste to Pad Thai. We got to eat the food we made so make sure you go with an appetite. Ize is an amazing teacher, he made the class really enjoyable and kept everyone engaged. He is very knowledgable and explained how Thai cooking has changed over the years although we focused on making traditional thai dishes (which still tasted delicious)

This place is worth a visit if you are vegan or vegetarian and want to try hands on cooking Thai food. The class is of around 1.5 hours. You learn to prepare 5 dishes and you are given a recipe book which is quite simplified and easy to understand.
